The only shelter-to-housing program of its kind in Middle Tennessee that accepts the entire homeless family, Safe Haven leads our community’s efforts to house, support, empower and advocate for families experiencing homelessness. They keep the family together and provide comprehensive services that empower them to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.
Safe Haven helps families experiencing homelessness by providing for their immediate needs of shelter and stability. They operate through effective and results-driven programs, integrating services that are evidence-based. Our housing-first model, coupled with wrap around services, is designed to give families the necessary tools to achieve lasting self-sufficiency, stable employment and secured housing.
All of Safe Haven’s housing programs begin in shelter. They have 10 spaces for families with children. They then begin a housing plan as soon as families enter the shelter. Though multiple community grants, Safe Haven is able to assist approximately 30 families at a time with housing in the community.
TVC has been involved with many different opportunities at Safe Haven, from providing a meal to family pictures to helping with cleaning and counting inventory.
Financial support from the church has gone directly to helping a family get housed.
Safe Haven has many upcoming events, including their annual Hike for the Homeless on November 10 at Edwin Warner Park. But you don’t have to wait to get involved. Current volunteer opportunities include childcare, moving, front desk/administration and hospitality. Contact Emily Rattle at [email protected] for more info.
