The Front Porch Ministry is a family-run nonprofit ministry based in the home of Thom and Michele Hazelip. In 2004, Thom and Michele answered a call to share the hope and love of Jesus Christ and bought a home in inner-city Nashville only a few blocks from the projects. They have opened their home and front porch to the at-risk kids and single moms in the neighborhood and provide a safe, loving environment. Today, Front Porch Ministry is about living in relationship with the surrounding underserved community, as they strongly believe that true, lasting impact begins with relationship.

During the school year, they host large seasonal events and engage kids and moms weekly through mentoring, family assistance and their upcoming tutoring school room. On Saturdays they also feed the hungry, cooperating with the Nashville Food Project.

For several years now, The Village Chapel has supported the Front Porch Ministry through volunteers, prayer, donations and several Second Saturdays of City Service. Donations have helped provide for basic ministry needs like food and family assistance and recently helped with a building expansion for the after-school program called the W.R.A.P. Room (Writing, Reading, Arithmetic, Projects).

There are many ways in which you can partner with the Front Porch Ministry. The Nashville Food Truck comes each Saturday at 1 pm to serve food to the community, and volunteers are ALWAYS welcome. In addition, fall and winter events include their annual Halle-Boo-Yah Block Party on the Saturday before Halloween and the Family2Family Christmas Adoptions of families in need for Christmas assistance, which begins in mid-November. Summer outreach opportunities run throughout June and July, including weekly ice cream socials each Thursday and Friday movie nights. Groups and individual volunteers are welcome.
