The mission of Begin Anew (formerly CWJC) is to empower individuals to overcome poverty-based obstacles by providing education, mentoring and resources. A holistic program, Begin Anew helps people realize solutions to their economic, emotional, education and spiritual poverty. This happens through more than 250 staff and volunteers working in seven Middle Tennessee sites to provide high school equivalency, ESL and computer/job skills training for ages 18-56, including free childcare while adult students attend class.

The Village Chapel has impacted Begin Anew’s ministry through prayer and funding to help the organization purchase educational materials, provide childcare and programming. Each site is staffed with a program director providing case management and wrap-around services to address any barriers a student may have to fulfilling their educational goals.

Last year, Begin Anew had 56 graduates, and their next graduation ceremony/celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, at Nashville First Baptist. This kind of progress wouldn’t be possible without volunteers. Are you available to help as tutors, in childcare and to be matched with a Begin Anew student as an encourager/prayer partner? Most volunteer needs are during class times, which are weekday evenings in the following locations: Madison, downtown Nashville, South Nashville, Woodbine and Williamson County.
